This is a win-win for students and teachers.įinally, students will have more time to spend with their families with less homework. They can now spend this new free time reading books, playing sports, or bonding with their families. ![]() The Washington Post claims that teachers “work up to 53 hours a week” (“Should our kids have homework at all?”). Less homework would also mean less grading for teachers. ![]() Doctor Craig Canapari, who directs the Yale Pediatric Sleep Center, says on his website, “up to 90% of teenagers do not get enough sleep on school nights with major factors being stress and homework.” One could conclude that less work at home will result in more achieved at school. During class, some students can be seen with their heads down and eyes shut. Students are also overstressing, which hurts their performance in the classroom. Case High student Billy Brodeur stated, “I go to winter track from 3-4, drama from 4-5:30, then I work 6-10. However, many students play a sport, do an extracurricular activity, work after school, or all of the above. They believe students go home right after school and basically have nothing to do. One of the problems is that teachers do not understand their students. Therefore, and for many other reasons, high school students should have less homework so they have time to do other things. Numerous students at Case say that the word “homework” makes them want to cry.
